Blessed Betrayal – #WIPitUp Wednesday

Hello and welcome to week two of my sharing from my upcoming release called Blessed Betrayal.   Last week we were with Cali as she got the news she wasn’t pregnant. Based on everyone’s comments, I think we all agree her husband, Kevin, is a jerk.   Let me know how you feel after this scene.

Cali lowered herself slowly into the driver’s seat of her sedan. The over-the-counter pain medication she had taken this morning had long since worn off, leaving her body aching. As much as she hurt today, she was still better than yesterday. She had called in sick the day before, for the first time in her two years of teaching third grade at Franklin Elementary school, electing to stay home to give her strained muscles time to recover. She had been achy all day, but her co-workers just thought she was still recovering from the aftermath of the flu. They never needed to know it was the aftermath of an especially long and strenuous Kevin Bennett exercise session that had her in pain.

The house was quiet when she entered the kitchen through the garage. She didn’t expect her husband home until much later tonight. He had gratefully been out of town on business the night before, allowing her body a night off to recover. She knew better than to hope he would be detained another night.

Life had been particularly hellish in the two weeks since her last visit to the doctor. She prayed this was the month she would get pregnant. Things would be so much better once they had a baby on the way.

At first, Cali hadn’t understood Kevin’s big rush to have kids, but she had since found out the details of her grandfather-in-law’s will. The man was as egocentric as they came, wanting to leave behind a legacy of decedents. It was so important to him, that his grandchildren would inherit shares of the sizable estate based on the size of their families. Considering they already lived in a house much too big and owned three vehicles for two people, Cali didn’t understand her husband’s urgency to get a bigger piece of the family pie.

Once upstairs, she swallowed another dose of Tylenol before slipping into a steaming hot bath until the ache of her muscles had eased.

After her bath, Cali fixed a simple grilled cheese sandwich, settling in to grade papers and read a good book. The sound of her cell phone startled her. It was his ring.

“Hello Kevin.”

“Hey. I’m gonna be stuck here another night. I won’t be home until tomorrow night now.”

Conflicting emotions invaded. Relief won. “That’s too bad. I haven’t taken my ovulation test yet, but it’s gonna be any day. Do you think you’ll be home tomorrow night?”

“Yes, Calista. I’ll be home tomorrow night in time to service you properly. I haven’t forgotten my duty as sperm donor.”

His words sparked her anger. She was always so much braver over the phone than when he was there in person. “Do you even hear yourself? We’re married, Kevin. I’m your wife. I think you’re supposed to be a little more than just a damn sperm donor in my life.”

“Dammit Calista, I’m not going to have this discussion over the phone.”

“If not over the phone, then when?”

She heard a shuffle at his end. “Listen Calista, I know things have been kind of rough for us these last few months. I have my reasons for being so stressed. You’re right. We should talk when I get home tomorrow.” He spoke in the gentlest voice she had heard in months. It reminded her of the Kevin she had been in love with once.

Hot tears prickled. She was tired of being afraid. She wanted to trust her husband. “I’d like that Kevin. We can’t go on like this anymore. Things have to change.”

He was quiet long enough that she’d begun to think they’d been disconnected. “I can’t do this right now, Cali. I should be home early tomorrow. Why don’t we go out to Rivers for dinner?”

Damn him. Just when she had her protective walls built around her heart, he would show her a glimpse of the Kevin she had thought she was marrying. His split personality seemed to be on the same biological clock as her menstrual cycle. Two weeks of hellish rutting followed by two weeks of making love. Her heart was developing a case of whiplash.

“I’d love that, Kevin.”

“Go to bed. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He didn’t wait for her reply. The call dropped.
It took her a few minutes to realize what was so different about their exchange. It was the first time he had called her Cali in months… even in private.

She dozed off thinking of how happy she had been when he had proposed at Rivers over two years ago and how much had changed since that magical night. Could they get back some of that magic tomorrow night?

Blessed Betrayal – New WIP for #WiPitUp Wednesday

Welcome to my entry for #WIPitUp Wednesday!  If you’ve visited my blog the last few Wednesdays, you know I’ve been sharing excerpts from Having it All, book three in the Passion Series.  I’m thrilled to have forward movement with publishing that book and hope to have a release date to share very soon.

I thought I’d switch gears this week and share the first scene of a new book I just finished writing called Blessed Betrayal.   I am honored to be part of the Erotic Collective, a group of several Hall of Fame authors from  We are coming together to put out a new anthology in May called Twist where all of the stories will have surprise twists in the plots.  I had a lot of fun writing my contribution.

Short Blurb for Blessed Betrayal:

The worst part of having the person who betrayed you die is that they can’t see how happy you are after they’re gone.

Unedited Chapter One:

“I’m sorry, Cali.  I know it isn’t what you wanted to hear, but the test was negative.”

Her hopeful apprehension morphed to dread. “Are you sure?  Should we do another test?”

Dr. Galloway smiled indulgently.  “That won’t be necessary.  The tests are very reliable.  I’m sure you took one at home as well, didn’t you?”

“Yes.”  Her dejected reply was barely a whisper.

“Then you already know that taking another test would just be a waste.”  The OBGYN doctor wheeled his rolling stool closer to the exam table to pat Cali’s knee in a fatherly way.  “I know you and your husband are anxious to get your family started, but you’re only twenty-four.  You have plenty of time.  We have a lot of options we haven’t tried yet.”

Cali struggled to hold back her tears.  How could she tell her kind doctor how important it was for her to get pregnant?

He continued on with his instructions.  “I think it’s time for us to do testing on your husband.  Since we haven’t found any smoking gun on your side of the equation, it’s time to take a look at Mr. Bennett’s sperm count and mobility.  That will help me decide our next steps.”

“I don’t know about that, Dr. Galloway.  Kevin is so busy with his job.  He joined his father’s law firm last year and is working crazy hours.  I doubt he can come in for an appointment.”   Cali didn’t know how to tell the good doctor that her husband had made it very clear that giving him an heir was her responsibility and the only help he planned on contributing to the process was a ‘daily hard fuck’.   The array of bruises scattered across her body were proof he was living up to his hard promise.

Calista trembled as she realized her temporary veil of protection had fallen with the negative test result. Kevin was more gentle with her during the weeks of the month she might be in the process of forming a fragile new life.  For the last year, each month the results were negative, he not only deemed it his responsibility to punish her for failing him yet again, but he then proceeded to make up for lost time.  The next two weeks of her life were going to be hell.

No.  She couldn’t tell the kind doctor that.

“What would he have to do?”

The doctor got a wolfish grin.  “Us men have it pretty easy, to be honest.  You poor women get poked and prodded with all kinds of needles and drugs.  Your husband just needs to come in and give us a deposit of his sperm.  He’ll have a private room and will be able to bring along reading or viewing material he might need to help.  All in all, the men have it pretty good in this deal.”

How right he was.  “Okay, I’ll talk to him about it.”

“Sounds good.  Keep your chin up.  We’ve done a lot of tests and I see no reason why you can’t get pregnant.  It’s gonna happen when the time is right and not a minute before.”

She forced a smile to hide her growing sense of dread.  “Thanks again, doctor.  I’ll see you next time.”

As Calista redressed, she said a small prayer that Kevin would be in a good mood when he got home today.  He’d been out of town on business the last two days.  Since passing the bar exam, he had been working eighty hours a week or more and in truth, he was gone so much it made her life less stressful most of the time.  Unfortunately, he still checked in at home often enough to dump his dirty laundry and contribute his duty to operation ‘give me an heir.

Sitting at a stop light on the drive home, Cali once again questioned why she stayed with her husband.  He had changed so much since they got married almost two years before.  He had always been dominant… demanding.  The problem was he’d begun to take the definition of dominant to a whole new level.  Cali used to think of herself as a submissive.  Lately, she felt more like a well-worn doormat.

Cover Reveal: Psychology of Submission

I am thrilled to be participating in Corbin’s Bend Season Three line-up.  If you read Life’s Unexpected Gifts during season two, you know Troy’s sister Traci played a very important role in Troy and Hallie’s HEA, but she was left still looking for her own Mr. Right.    Traci is getting her own story in season three.

It is with great pleasure I introduce you to Traci Jackson and Sean Campbell from Psychology of Submission, due out on June 4thl!

Traci Jackson has been a therapist in Corbin’s Bend for several years. She’s helped many residents navigate their own D/s and DD relationships, but she hasn’t found her own HoH. Through her patients, she’s been researching and writing about the dynamics of dominance and submission in relationships for years. She loves her field, but she hates attending professional conventions where she’s treated like her specialty isn’t valid.

Sean Campbell is juggling raising his teenage daughter alone in Chicago while running a large convention hotel. When the annual psychologist convention comes to town, he literally bumps into the most beautiful and intelligent woman he’s met in a long time. He gets the surprise of his life when he finds out her specialty is D/s with an emphasis on corporal punishment.

They may find sparks from the minute they meet, but Traci and Sean have more than just the long distance between Chicago and Corbin’s Bend separating them. Sean has never heard of domestic discipline before. Will Traci pack up and leave Corbin’s Bend to be with the man she’s falling in love with, even if he can never be her true HoH?

Traci stood grounded, her heart rate increasing with each step he took in her direction. By the time he arrived in front of her, she could feel her heart pounding in her ears. She forced herself to take a calming breath before she hyperventilated.

“Hi. I hope you don’t mind me waiting out here for you. I was worried about you.”

“Me? You were worried about me?”

He smiled indulgently. “Yes, you. You’re the only person I’ve noticed running in the direction of the ladies room today. I thought maybe you were ill or needed help.”

Without thinking, Traci answered unguardedly, “I’m not sure you can help with my problem, but thanks.” She was embarrassed with her admission as soon as it left her mouth.

He didn’t seem to notice. “You’d be surprised. I can fix a lot of things around here.” His playful smile was unnerving.

“I bet you can, Mr…..?” She tried not to look as anxious for his name as she really was.

“Campbell. Sean Campbell. And you are?”

“Traci. Traci Jackson.”

He reached into his suit jacket and came out with a business card, handing it to her. “I’d like you to take my card. Call me anytime if there’s anything you need during your stay. Anything at all.”

Traci reached out for the card, enjoying the zing of electricity when their fingers brushed. She barely took her gaze off his mesmerizing grey eyes long enough to glance down at his card. When she read it, her excitement doused.

By the time she looked back up, reality was settled in. She lost her concentration, almost sending the armful of folders to the floor in another heap.

“Here. Let me take some of those before you lose them again. Where are you headed? I’d be glad to help you deliver them.”

At least he was a gentleman, even if he was only doing his job. “That’s great Mr. Campbell, but I see you’re the general manager of the hotel. I’m sure you have a lot more important things to do than help me deliver research papers.” She hated the disappointment she heard in her voice. What had she expected? Having handsome strangers sweep you off your feet only happened in her romance novels.

“Sean.” When she looked at him confused, he repeated. “Call me Sean.”

“Okay, Sean. Thanks for the offer but…” He didn’t let her finish. He reached out and took almost the whole stack from her arms.

“Lead the way, Traci.”

Sean made small talk as they headed in the direction of the ballroom. “Forgive me if this is too forward, but it looked like some of the men from your conference were harassing you earlier. Would you like me to call security to station someone down in this corridor?”

His offer surprised her. “I don’t think that will be necessary. Now, if you could arrange for a public flogging session for them, that would be awesome.”

Traci’s face flamed when she realized what she’d said. She was relieved when Sean burst out laughing at her ridiculous request.

“Well, I’m afraid we had to recently tear out the pillory. It seemed to upset some of the guests. I could check to see if we might have it in storage if you’d like.”

They were laughing together as Sean played along. Traci realized how great it felt to share a laugh with the professional accompanying her.

“So where are you from, Traci?”

“That’s great. How long are you in town for?”

“Just through Friday.”

“So you’re here for the psychology conference?”

“You a doctor?”

“No. Just a psychologist.”

“That’s great. You taking on new patients?” He had a twinkle in his eye.

“Maybe. You almost out of questions? I feel like I’m on a game show. What’s the prize if I win?”

They arrived at the table outside of the main ballroom. Traci put her pile of folders down and motioned for Sean to do the same. A full minute had elapsed, but her fun question was still hanging in the air. She noticed Sean had started to look nervous. He faltered before continuing.

“I’m afraid I have one final question and your prize depends on your answer to the question.”

The pause was dramatic. He grinned as he delivered his final question. “I was wondering if you’d like to join me for dinner this evening?”

A date request was the last thing Traci expected. Her nerves flew into high gear and she stood, grounded yet wobbly. Sean sensed her instability and reached out to take her forearms in his, just like he had earlier. They stood linked while Traci got more and more flustered. Sean inched them closer, slipping one arm behind her back to stabilize her.

“I’m definitely out of practice for asking pretty women out on dates, but I do think it’s customary for said woman to respond with either a yes or a no. I sure as hell hope you’ll say yes. It may take me years to get the nerve up to ask someone again if you crush my confidence.”

Traci chuckled. He was good at disarming her. She liked that. “Dinner, eh? I guess that would be okay. I’d love to see more of the city.”

“Then it’s a date. I’d love to take you to one of my favorite spots in the city. I haven’t been there in a long time. It will be a treat for me, too.”

“Sounds good. What should I wear?”

“Something casual. I’ll meet you in the lobby at six?”

“Six. Sounds good, Sean.”

For the briefest of seconds, he looked like he might lean in for a kiss, but thought better of it. Instead he just brushed her arm with a quick pat goodbye before turning to head down the hallway.

A date. I came all the way to Chicago for a real, live date. I didn’t see that coming.

Guest Post: Sharing Silver by Tabitha Black

Long before Tabitha Black wrote Sharing Silver, I was a big Master’s of the Castle fan.   In case you’ve missed it, Maren Smith created a dream BDSM playground in the middle of Ohio, no less.  As a BDSM erotic romance author, I of course have read each and every book in Maren’s series.  When she started inviting other talented authors to join in her vision, things really got fun.

In January five full length novels were released together in a boxed set called When the Gavel Falls.  All were set at the Castle during one amazing New Year’s weekend.   I loved all of the stories, but my favorite was Sharing Silver by Tabitha Black.   I’m thrilled to have Tabitha visiting my site today with a hot excerpt.  As if one amazing Master of the Castle isn’t good enough, Silver has the honor of winning the hearts of two masters when the gavel fell.

Sharing Silver_500x755-1

Oh shit, oh shit, what the fuck am I doing here? It had all seemed so exciting when she’d agreed to it in the safety of her own bedroom at home in Brisbane—being desired so much that someone was willing to pay for time with her had seemed like such a hot idea. To be bought as a plaything, with no control over who the purchaser was, what he chose to do to her, how he decided to use her—and yet to simultaneously have that fantasy fulfilled with the safety net of it happening at the Castle… it had seemed like a good idea at the time… back when she was feeling particularly submissive and masochistic, and would have given anything for a good, hard play. But now?

Now it was actually happening, and behind each of those flashing red lights in the dark void of the audience was a face, and she did not know a single one of them. You sort of know Trev, a small voice protested. Yeah, but he’s not the kind to need to pay for it, not when he probably gets it for free whenever he wants. What if someone really awful wins the bid, like that creepy dude who spoke to me earlier? It’s not like I can back out. I signed the waiver.

Silver started as the girl directly in front of her made her way up to the stage. She was vaguely aware of Master Marshall introducing her as ‘O’. Clever name, she thought.

‘O’ seemed enraptured to be there, at centre stage, and Silver gasped as the gorgeous girl suddenly stood with her back to the audience, bent over at the waist, and effectively mooned every single person in the room, provocatively, as if begging to be spanked, or fucked. Or both. Hardly surprising, then, that the bidding started thick and fast and only grew higher and higher, until ‘O’ was finally sold for the same amount as the girl before her; eight thousand dollars.

Shit, shit, shit, Silver cursed inwardly. The bids have been getting higher with each girl, but there’s no way I’ll ever fetch anything near that amount.

“And now ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our next girl up on stage… number eight, this is Silver, who has travelled all the way from Australia to be here with us this evening!” Master Marshall reached out to her, beckoning her to join him under the hot lights.

Don’t trip, don’t trip, don’t trip, Silver chanted inwardly as she ascended the small steps in those infuriating heels. After what felt like an eternity, she had finally taken her place beside the handsome, commanding, blond man who was hosting the event, and it was all she could do not to bury her face in his broad chest and hide.

It’s been six months since her vanilla marriage ended in divorce, and Sylvia is craving some fun and excitement – not to mention kink. So when her friend Rosa tells her about a slave auction being held at her workplace, the Castle, Sylvia throws caution to the wind and signs herself up to fly all the way to America to be sold off to the highest bidder under the nickname Silver. Gorgeous twin Castle Masters, Travis and Trevor, can have any girl they choose – and frequently do. The only downside to topping female guests, however, is the fact that there’s never enough time to build trust. So when Trevor hears about the auction, he decides it’s time to be selfish, and he and his brother set about looking for a plaything they can do whatever they want with – a girl with as few limits as possible.

When Silver and the twins meet, the chemistry is instantaneous and palpable. But all too soon, something more begins to develop between the three. What should have been a few days of physical excitement turns into an emotional roller coaster – not only for Silver, but for Travis and Trevor as well.

Overwhelmed by the events at the BDSM resort – and her feelings – Silver tries to get to grips with her past, as well as the fact that she’s rapidly falling in love with the two biggest playboys in Ohio.

In turn, Travis and Trevor are smitten by the mysterious girl from Australia, but whenever they try to get closer emotionally, she clams up. Can the twins make her see what she means to them before it’s too late, and Silver gets back on the plane home?

Inside the Mind of a Dom #SatSpanks

Saturday Spankings-Val Heart Paddles-rev

Hello and welcome!  Glad you stopped by for my #SatSpanks snippet.  This week, I’m sharing an intimate look into the mind of Markus as he prepares to punish his wife, Brianna, for endangering their marriage and even her life.   In Securing it All, they have only begun to understand that each of them had kept many secrets from the other.

Tonight feels totally different. It’s real. Intimate. He can’t deny the Dom in him can’t wait to feel his sexy wife wiggling across his lap, grinding into his cock as she learns her lesson. The powerful feelings coursing through him are intoxicating as he takes a few minutes before starting to simply massage his wife’s lower back, ass and thighs, admiring the evidence of her previous punishments still visible across her bottom.

Overshadowing his feeling of dominance is his feeling of responsibility to her – to protect, cherish and guide her when she gets off course, to punish her when she needs to learn an important lesson. The fact that she trusts him enough to play this important role in her life humbles him and he’s surprised to find himself dreading having to actually hurt her. He’s always hated to hear Bri cry for any reason, and he knows he’s going to have to harden his heart tonight against her impending tears.

This is what she needs and you know it, Lambert. Hell, it’s what you both need, so don’t be such a pussy.’
